Write some lists of your own that match the ones in Lyon’s

this list with the class. Your list
must include at least 30 items.
List . . .
- Items found around your home (bobby pins, stacks of newspapers, grandma’s teeth, coupons, etc.)
- Items found in your yard (broken rakes, dog bones, hoses coiled like green snakes – think of metaphors while you create these lists!)
- Items found in your neighborhood (corner grocery store, Mr. Tate’s beat up Toyota, the magnolia tree)
- Names of people who link you to the past
- Sayings (“If I’ve told you once . . .”)
- Names of food and dishes that make you think of home (tamales, black eyed peas, bbq, etc.)
3.
Write a poem using your list. You must incorporate
ALL FIVE OF THE SENSES (SENSORY DETAILS),
2 SIMILES or METAPHORS,
2 instances of ALLITERATION
